Rejuvenation

I have been noticing that daffodils are in full bloom all over the city. I hope you are all enjoying whatever display of color nature is creating wherever you are. It is always a much welcomed change after the somber colors of winter. It is a reminder to rejuvenate ourselves in every way and in any form we can. It is an invitation to reclaim and enjoy freshness and newness in ourselves and in our surroundings.

Rejuvenation can be as simple as cleaning your living space, or bringing out all your spring and summer clothes, or reframing the perspective you have on a situation, or scheduling more walks in your day. So many possibilities.

Sometimes reframing the way we look at something can be the most powerful thing we can do. I went to the New York Botanical Gardens on Saturday with my cousins from out of town. If you live in New York City you know that rain just poured all day. Nonetheless we decided to go. As we left the gardens to go to the train station after our visit the rain really started to come down. I was worried that my cousins were not having a good time because of this. As I looked at them I realized that they were laughing as we walked through the rain getting soaked. They were commenting what a wonderful adventure we were having walking in the rain. They just kept laughing and laughing and saying what great experience they were having. At that moment I thought "yeah, they are right!!!" I kept walking with them and even stepped on the deep pockets of water on the road instead of avoiding them. Have you ever done that? It is so liberating. It completely reframed my experience of that walk. I will always remember that time with them.

As you come to practice yoga this week I invite you to see and experience your practice in a new way. Enjoy getting wet ... in sweat if it gets to that. As a teacher friend told me once "Enjoy the sweat. It's holy water".

I look forward to seeing you in class.

Blessings
