Strength

We focused on the strength of the legs for three weeks because the legs can take a lot. If we focus on the arms two weeks in a row I am afraid I will be the only one in class. So this week we will turn our focus to the torso and the spine. And don't worry we will come back to the arms before the end of the year :)

There is a lot going on in the torso. There is the outermost layer of muscles which we are more aware of. We will be focusing on this layer this week. The muscles on this layer help us with more overt movements so they are more easily accessible or we can more easily feel them. They form a boundary that encases and protects all the organs inside too. In addition to this they help us to stand upright and move the torso in so many directions.

I did not realize how important the strength of the muscles of the torso were until I started doing physical therapy. I realized that after every PT session that focused on the upper body it would feel so much easier to stand upright and more importantly for me easier to walk. We all have some strength in the torso but it is important to continue to develop this strength. You will be surprise how much lighter and free you can feel once you strengthen the muscles around your torso.

This even goes beyond the physical because this sense of strength and lightness can help us to move physically and mentally through challenging situations.

I look forward to seeing you in class.

Blessings
