Release and Change
On Monday December 14th we will be having a solar eclipse. It will be visible in the Southern Hemisphere and will peak at around 8:30am EST. According to Jyotish which is the study of astronomy, astrology and the science of timekeeping using the movements of astronomical bodies, this is a time to take things easier and for the practices of yoga, contemplation, and meditation. Every one of these events have a particular flavor or energetic imprint. The current eclipse is said to bring the qualities of release and change. These are very timely qualities to contemplate and practice at this time for all of us.
Release contains in it a willingness to observe at our past, to expose it completely. This is an act of bravery that allows us to face, forgive, learn, and move on from the past. So release is a very rich word which is the seed of genuine change. The quality of change is not just a contemplation but has inherent in it action. Something needs to be done in order to bring about this change. This action is not just a one time thing but a constant new way of being. Change implies something different and new.
Release and change may take on different flavors for each one of us. During this week I would like to invite you to think about these two qualities and find out what flavor they take in your yoga practice and in your day to day live.
