“The Heart is the hub of all sacred places, go there and roam.” Bhagavan Nityānanda
A long time ago I was teaching a private class to someone in California. During this particular session we were working on expanding the chest area. After a few poses the person I was teaching mentioned how vulnerable he felt opening the chest. I think this is a feeling that many of us can relate to. Nowadays since we spend a lot more time in front of a screen the tendency is to experience a closed chest area so opening it may feel difficult or like some kind of a threat.
The Heart whether physically or energetically holds a very special place in yoga. It is a gateway into the experience of our own essence which is sacred. The tittle for this email is one of the first teachings that I heard when I started practicing yoga. For some reason I felt very much drawn to meditating in this space. I have discovered that the Heart holds many experiences from the most profound and strong experience of Love to the greatest challenges and deeper than those experiences a very sacred place. My teacher described once the Heart as the sanctum sanctorum, the holiest of the holies, the place where only you and God have access. This is the place where we experience sacredness. This is why Bhagavan Nityānanda, a great yogi, encourages to explore the Heart by saying:
"The Heart is the hub of all sacred places, go there and roam"
We will be exploring this special place in class this week through the practice of yoga poses and meditation.
